Emerging Voices Panel - Call for Proposals

The Panel and Prize

The Emerging Voices in Food Law and Policy panel will showcase student scholarship. A jury of practitioners and academics will select the best presentation and paper to receive the Gowlings WLG – Joel Taller Prize for Emerging Voices in Food Law

Who Can Submit

The student panel is open to any student currently enrolled in a JD, BCL or equivalent degree program, or an LLM degree program, as well as anyone who graduated from a JD, BCL or equivalent program in 2023.

What to Submit

Interested candidates must submit a paper proposal (title, abstract and keywords) on a topic that addresses any area of food law and policy. There is no requirement for papers to address the conference theme. Submissions may be in French or English. A completed paper is not required at the application stage, but you must commit to submitting a completed paper by the date specified below if you are selected to present.

Selected candidates will be required to submit a paper of 8,000 words or less.  The paper can be an academic article or a policy brief.

Student papers may also be considered for a special issue of the Lakehead Law Journal.  Students who wish to have their paper considered for publication will be paired with an academic mentor who will provide comments on the paper and assist the student in preparing it for peer review.

Important Dates

  • September 29, 2023 –  Deadline for submissions

  • October 6, 2023 – Announcement of selection of panelists

  • October 27, 2023 - Deadline for submission of completed papers

  • November 3, 2023 – Presentation of research at the conference
