Taking a bite out of waste governance in Canada: Who does what and how to work better together (anglais)
Vendredi 15 Novembre 2024 - 16:00h - 17:15h
Governing food loss and waste in the circular economy poses all the hallmark challenges of a “wicked” problem that requires multi-forum and multi-level collaboration under considerable regulatory uncertainty about who plays (or should play) what roles and how. We propose a panel that examines these challenges and potential solutions. McLeod-Kilmurray will explore the federal role, including measures to regulate agricultural and landfill methane and to mandate measurement and reporting of food loss and waste across the food supply chain. Brynne and Baxter will critically examine growing calls for local governments to be leaders in addressing food loss and waste by leveraging their powers over waste management, land use control, business licencing, transportation and public space.
